Erv, I agree with Jim I don't remember how long they flew these a/c in that configuration. Jim basically confirmed what we had discussed on the phone  I remember they were suppossed to simulate any a/c in the inventory at the time without ever exceeding the 106 limitations. Never did know exactly what there objective was because we in the field were kind of left out of the loop. I do remember what Jim said about it being an expensive project. I heard this from both AF types (SAAMA) & Convair people, however, none would discuss the purpose.

Cheers guys,

Thanks for the info Jim. The F-106 sure participated in a lot of strange projects in the early days that I was never aware of. Take care.....Erv

Hi Erv,Reference what happened to F-106B 57-2529. The aircraft left McGuire and ended up at Martin in Baltimore. It was modified with some type of flight simulation computer system that would allow the front seat pilot to set up a program for the guy in backseat that could simulate different types of aircraft handling charateristics. It was a lengthy and expensive mod. Can't remember how long they flew the things at Edwards. They may have been used as part of the training for astronauts. Hard to recall some of the things that happened so long ago. Keep up the good work. Glad you have a lot of patient. As Always. Jim
