Subject: Fw: Kinross Military Museum
Joe Sullivan is working on some projects to help
advertise the base and museum. To find out more, contact him at JSullivan/7319@aol.com.
The Kinross Amvet's Bronsma-Meehan Post 1899 and
Kinross Boosters' are proud to announce the plans to establish and build a
Military Museum next to the Kinross Heritage Park. We touched on this during the
reunion held in Sault Ste. Marie in 2002. This museum will display exhibits; not
only from Kinross/Kincheloe Air Force Base, but also other branches of the
military. We are looking for exhibits from World Wars I & II, Korean and
Viet Nam wars.
As many of you know, Kincheloe AFB was closed in
1977. Due to a successful base conversion, the community of Kincheloe was
formed, as part of Kinross Township. A generation has grown up not knowing what
Kinross/Kincheloe AFB was all about. We want area children to have a place to go
where they can learn about the military, see what the uniforms looked like and
the impact the military had on the local area. We have many items already
donated from members previously stationed at Kincheloe.
We need for you to look around for those uniforms,
papers, or pictures from your military service. We will take anything you can
give us, it will help to be able to rotate the exhibits from time to time.
Especially needed are items from your service here at Kincheloe, even newspaper
articles.
Another area of need is the funds to build this
museum. If you would like to help, a $10 minimum donation will make you a
Founding Member and listed in the Museum's Founders Journel. For donations of
$50.00 to $100.00, your name will be placed on the Founders Plaque. Donations
over $100.00 will have your name on the Founders Plaque and you will be issued a
501c3 for taxes. Group or Organizational donations are also welcome. We have the
plans and estimates for the building and need to raise $15,000 for the slab,
shell and interior materials. Volunteers will raise and finish the
building.
We hope we can count on you to help make this
museum a reality. It will be a place for our children and grandchildren to learn
about the military and for veterans to look back and reminisce. If you wish to
help, send your donations and articles of exhibit to the "Kinross Military
Museum Building Fund", P.O. Box 94, Kinross, Mi. 49752.
If you have any questions, please call John Gaines
(Commander Amvets Post 1899) 1-906-495-5169 or Dan Mitchell (President Kinross
Boosters) 1-906-495-7361. E-mails may be sent to : Kinross Township
(kinross.net) or to Dan Mitchell (demitchl@up.net).
