Hi, Erv,

Great seeing the pictures you have of 230.   I never realized it was on display in Jacksonville!

The date of the aborted takeoff was Jul 8, 1974.  I cannot recall the exact date on the 1977 blown tire Class C Mishap, but it happened during the ORI in June of 1977.

I was initially be accused of stomping the brakes as I was on takeoff, but a week later another F-106 had the very same thing happen at another base and that's when they found they had a bad batch of tires from Goodyear and I was exonerated.

Did you know that prior to the Jul 1974 fire on takeoff, that airplane was the commander's aircraft, and after a year plus in the hangar for repairs, it came out with my name on it and I flew it as often as I could until I departed in July 1977 for the NJANG.

Thanks for the link to my site.  I think I have and incredible story to tell and hope your readers enjoy the story.  I wrote it many years after the fact and tried to recall as many facts as I could, I believe it to be accurate.

Thanks for your good work on this project, if you need anything else, please let me know.

I am on the road allot now, so my email may be delayed sometimes.

Sincerely,

Eric R. Johnston

Mr. Johnston - I'm doing the history on every F-106 tail number and this is what I've got for your bird that is now on display at Jacksonville. Thanks for publishing your stories that I've linked to. Have I got the aborted take-off dates correct and would you have the exact dates?

Thanks...Erv Smalley (Retired E-8, MA-1, Colorado Springs CO)
