THE CHRISTMAS DART By Pat Perry |
T'was a week before Christmas after 4 years of hassle, A lone F-106 was headed for Castle. Stripped and gutted on a trailer she came, With wings and spare-parts of every name. Born in the fifties, she was known as the Dart, And men kept her flying with all of their heart. From border to border and coast to coast, Her pilots flew sorties of which they would boast. After years on her airframe and cold desert nights, She was coming to rest with her cousins of flight. Four guys and their buddies raised nickels and dimes, So that others might see her for just one more time. She'll go on display proudly, with colors so bold, And capture the hearts of the young and the old. Her years of good service give us reason to cheer, As do the 456th airmen who served with her here. |
